A rigid or padded block that holds a sheet of sandpaper flat, either wrapped and clamped or stuck on. It keeps the surface flat instead of letting your fingers follow it into hollows. Cork, rubber and foam blocks suit different surfaces.

Buying tip
Keeps the surface flat instead of following your fingers. Better finish than sanding by hand.
