A rugged pack with a separate padded or laminated pocket for paperwork and a phone, and room for lunch, a layer and rain gear. A tarpaulin base survives being set down on wet concrete every morning.

Buying tip
For lunch, layers and paperwork. A separate hard pocket saves your safety glasses.

Heads-up Wait until you know what you actually carry — most apprentices over-buy their first bag.
